A single baked beef layer fills soft rolls with melted cheddar, pickles and mustard for small burgers that come together at once.

Baking the beef in a thin slab makes Cheeseburger Sliders practical when several people are eating together. Draining the meat before it meets the rolls prevents the bottoms from becoming greasy.

Choose connected slider rolls and keep the slab slightly larger than the bread because beef shrinks as it cooks. A short second bake melts the cheese without drying the rolls.

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Mix the ground beef lightly with onion powder, salt and black pepper. Press into a thin rectangle about 10 by 14 inches on a rimmed sheet pan.

  2. Bake for until the center reaches 160°F. Carefully drain the fat and pat the top lightly with paper towels.

  3. Split the connected slider rolls horizontally. Put the bottoms in a baking dish, spread with yellow mustard and add the cooked beef, trimming to fit if needed.

  4. Layer on the cheddar and dill pickles, add the roll tops and brush with melted butter.

  5. Bake for until the cheese melts and the tops are golden. Cut between the rolls to serve two sliders per person.

Forkue tips

  • Let the beef slab drain on the pan before lifting it so hot rendered fat does not soak into the bread.
